House | Břeclav

The family house Lookout is set on a relatively small corner plot that marks the end of a street lined with compact houses typical of the second half of the twentieth century. The new house therefore follows the existing urban structure and the proportions of the surrounding buildings, while at the same time developing them through a contemporary architectural language, a clean massing composition, and the distinctive upper element of the rooftop lookout. This feature accentuates the end of the street and disrupts the otherwise calm cubic rhythm of the surrounding development. The design is based on simplicity, precise geometry, and the maximum use of the plot. Terraces therefore play an important role, extending the living space of the house and increasing the usability of the site for its inhabitants. The house has two residential levels, and its architecture seeks a balance between generous daylight, an airy interior, and the necessary degree of privacy. An important element of the design is channel glass, which does not enclose the space but instead lets light through, gently connects the interior with the exterior, and at the same time carries a subtle reference to the architecture of the past. The result is a family house that respects the character of its setting while giving it a new, contemporary identity.
